Common Scams to Avoid
At Grand Canyon Airport (GCN) and the Tusayan gateway area, some private shuttle or van drivers quote a flat "park entrance fee" that is much higher than the actual National Park pass. Insist on seeing the official park entrance station and pay the ranger directly.
Taxi and ride drivers waiting outside the small terminal sometimes claim the short ride into Tusayan hotels is a fixed-price "airport surcharge" zone; ask to see the meter or use the hotel's courtesy shuttle if available.
Souvenir kiosks and pop-up stands near the airport parking lot occasionally sell "authentic Native American crafts" that are mass-produced imports. Look for the official Grand Canyon Association store or certified artisan co-ops inside the park instead.
